Regional Manager Update

The Brisbane office recently hosted our 2018 Practice Forum. This provided some 60 or so members from small and medium-sized practices the opportunity to hear from panels and presenters on themes like the uptake of cloud technology in their practice, the comparative benefits of being a smaller, more nimble and adaptable practice, the customer experience, different practice models and much more. Also sessions on leadership and the traits of a sustainable practice were really well-received. Members enjoyed the opportunity for networking and found that the session content, which had been endorsed by our members’ Public Practice Advisory Committee, was highly relevant to them.

Great to get such a good response to this event, even though we knew the timing would be a challenge for many – so therefore we are making the sessions available to members in a set of recordings, which will soon be made available to purchase from the Education Store. Please reach out to me if you would like me to let you know when they become available.

Winter has arrived, and with it our Winter Tax and Super School series, coming to regional centres near you throughout July, August and early September. Members in those regional centres should also keep their eyes open for an invite to a general member networking event on the first evening of each of the two-day Schools – looking forward to seeing many of you as Richard Wanstall, your Regional Council Chair, and I get around these events.

Please think about nominating deserving peers for advancement to Fellowship and I also encourage you to contact me if you have any questions or queries around the process.

Hope to see you out and about soon!

Penny Ellenger,
Queensland Regional Manager

Boardroom Luncheon with Tim Mander MP

The Queensland CA ANZ office and Queensland Regional Council Chair, Richard Wanstall FCA, recently hosted an interactive and informative boardroom luncheon with guest speaker, the Honourable Tim Mander MP, Queensland Shadow Treasurer, and Deputy Leader of the Opposition.  High level representatives from across the profession were invited to engage in dialogue with the Shadow Treasurer, and were interested to hear about his perspective on the future of Queensland, including regional versus metro infrastructure spending, and impediments to business in a climate of uncertainty.

Regional Skills Adjustment Strategy

The Queensland State Government has released a body of funding to assist workers within the key industries of Resources, Manufacturing, Infrastructure, Food Processing and Agriculture.

Primary Areas of Assistance include support to current workers to gain new skills and build workplace resilience, workforce building for new and emerging roles and reskilling. Also to support workers at risk of being displaced or those who are facing retrenchment with Career planning & other Assessments, Employability Skills, Literacy, numeracy, digital and vocational skills, and Training to address skills and labour shortages.

The process to gain assistance is on a case by case basis through the development of a business case, which is then evaluated by the Regional Skills Adjustment Strategy Advisory Group.   This process is being driven through TAFE Qld, and each enquiry is managed by a RSAS officer who will provide assistance in the application process.
