Thought Leadership Paper

CA ANZ has just released a new paper in conjunction with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Singapore, focusing on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and ethics, titled Machines can learn, but what will we teach them? The paper provides insights into how AI is revolutionising our world but not necessarily helping us flourish as human beings. It recognises that while AI brings with it a range of ethical considerations, they should not be left to the tech giants to decide. Importantly, we also look into the role the accounting profession has to play in shaping how AI is integrated into businesses in a socially responsible way.

The paper is available for download.

Charity High Tea - 12 October

We hope you plan to attend our fourth Annual Charity High Tea Event, which this year will be in support of another of our CA ANZ Everybody Counts Charity Partners, Dementia Australia. The event will be held at the Brisbane office on 12 October. Bring a friend and a portion of your ticket price goes directly to Dementia Australia. There will be further opportunities to donate in our prize-filled raffle, as well as an opportunity to hear from an expert speaker on how technology is supporting the way that Australians can age well, while experiencing some of this technology for yourself, all while enjoying some delicious drinks and nibbles on a relaxing Friday afternoon. We hope to see you there, although numbers are strictly capped so register now!

Opportunities and Updates

QUT Accounting Research - Director Financial Literacy Test and Feedback

Are you/your clients financially literate for board work?

Being able to read and understand financial statements (director financial literacy) is the only legally mandated skill required of all board directors. Yet the Financial Reporting Council 2012 for Survey on Director Financial Literacy found directors serving on a wide range of boards in Australia may lack this capability. Researchers at the QUT School of Accountancy have developed a short online test for directors to verify their capability to monitor an organisation's finances. We invite current and former board directors to test their director financial literacy capability and share their views. By taking part in this research you will receive a copy of the Director Financial Literacy Checklist and Competency Framework, study research reports and access to the test.

For more information and to sign up for the study.

To access the questions, read and scroll to the bottom of the first page and click on the 'next' button in the bottom right corner of the page.

QUT is grateful for your participation and support of this research work.
