Find out what’s been happening in Queensland
During the past month, members have been very busy supporting us in a number of areas. Our annual High Tea was held in support of Dementia Australia, which is one of CAANZ corporate charity partners. Some 40 people joined us for a beautiful afternoon of bubbles, great music and sumptuous tasty treats.
What was particularly interesting were the useful insights shared by Dr Liz Cyarto, a senior research fellow at the Bolton Clarke Research Institute and Caylie Field, a manager at the Centre for Dementia Learning QLD with Dementia Australia. Together with the use of VR (Virtual Reality) goggles, guests were able to really appreciate what it is like to experience life as a dementia sufferer. It was a really lovely afternoon and it was well received by all who attended. Our generous guests raised $1235 to support Dementia Australia through raffle ticket sales and a donation included in their ticket price.
Future of Business Lunch
More than 75 guests registered to attend our recent Future of Business luncheon, which featured Michael Flanderka of Data Interactive who delivered a session on the practical application of RPA (robotic process automation) in today's finance function. Some of the mystery and apprehension around the theme of automation was eased for attendees, as they heard from Michael who covered an enormous amount of ground. This included what can be easily automated and how finance professionals should go about identifying the most appropriate functions to automate. The session was highly anticipated and Michael did not disappoint.
Membership Milestones in Hervey Bay and Bundaberg
This month our Queensland Council Chair Richard Wanstall was pleased to acknowledge 25 and 40 year membership milestones for a number of members in Hervey Bay. Taking the opportunity while hosting a members’ lunch on the Fraser Coast, Alan Birch was available in person to be presented with his certificate and pin by Richard on 16 November. Later that evening in Bundaberg, Richard was pleased to be able to present a 25 year milestone certificate and pin to Bradley Grogan, Bundaberg Regional Group Chair, at our members’ dinner event.

In 2018, the Queensland Regional Council has nominated Elisha Caffery (nee Moore) as the Queensland Young Regional Advocate and for the President's Prize Award for 2018. Elisha currently serves on the Queensland Regional Council and Queensland Public Practice Panel, and she is one of our most engaged young members, who is an incredibly strong advocate for CA ANZ and the profession with the current and future Chartered Accountants here in Queensland.
