- Four distinguished members of CA ANZ have been made Life Members, the highest honour awarded by CA ANZ
- Life Membership is given to members who demonstrate excellence throughout their professional career and their involvement with the community
- Recipients will be honoured at ceremonies in 2019
Four distinguished Fellows have been recognised with the highest honour given by Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ), Life Membership.
Richard Allert AO FCA, Elizabeth Hickey MNZM FCA, Ian Leggett FCA and Susan Sheldon CNZM FCA CFInst.D have been named Life Members by the CA ANZ Council. Life Membership is a rare recognition of exceptional members acknowledging the outstanding careers of members who are both widely respected in the community and the profession.
President of CA ANZ, Jane Stanton applauded the new Life Members on receiving the accolade and on their exceptional career accomplishments.
"I want to congratulate our new Life Members, Richard Allert, Elizabeth Hickey, Ian Leggett and Susan Sheldon on this prestigious recognition of service to their profession and acknowledgement of their leadership with purpose and integrity," said Stanton.
"All our Life Members have had truly outstanding careers and have not only excelled professionally but have been dedicated in serving the community with their expertise as Chartered Accountants."
Ian Leggett FCA has had a career spanning over three decades. During this time, he has contributed significantly to CA ANZ and the forerunners of CA ANZ, including setting up the current UK branch. Leggett has had an exemplary career holding prominent positions in the publishing industry at Dennis Publishing for over 25 years and at Touche Ross & Co for a decade. He is currently the Treasurer and Court Member of the Honourable Company of Stationers, and a Trustee of the Heart of England Forest, a charity that promotes the planting and conservation of a new, potentially 30,000 contiguous forest in the heart of England.
Elizabeth Hickey MNZM FCA has had a long and distinguished career. She was a partner at Ernst & Young and served as a member of the New Zealand Securities Commission. Hickey is currently a Director of Southern Cross Health Society, and a Trustee of the Southern Cross Health Trust and the University of Auckland Foundation. Hickey is best known for her contribution to financial reporting standard setting in New Zealand and internationally. Following five years at the International Accounting Standards Board in London, Hickey was appointed as an Adjunct Professor at the Department of Accounting and Finance at the University of Auckland. She has also made an immense contribution to committees and panels within the profession from 1979 and in 2013 was President of the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants, the forerunner of CA ANZ.
Richard Allert AO FCA has been conferred a Life Membership for his outstanding career accomplishments and has held numerous senior positions at some of the most well-known public companies in Australia including AMP, AXA, Coles Group and Southcorp. Allert has served with many Government agencies and charities in an array of capacities, including the National Heart Foundation of Australia, the National Gallery of Australia Council and the AustralAsia Railway Corporation.
Sue Sheldon CNZM FCA CFInst.D has achieved much in her career. In 2000, she became the first female president of the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants, and is Chair of Regenerate Christchurch. In 2007, she was made a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to business. Sue has chaired the boards of Freightways, Chorus, National Provident Fund and NZ Global Women, and been a director of numerous organisations, including the Reserve Bank of New Zealand, Telecom, Meridian Energy, Contact Energy and Girl Guiding New Zealand.
All of the new Life Members will receive their awards at ceremonies in 2019.
