- Tim Fairhall FCA, former NZICA President, passed away earlier this month
- He started an active involvement in NZICA affairs in the 1980s
- His service was marked by a commitment to “put something back”
Tim studied accounting at Victoria University of Wellington and in 1973 joined Barr Burgess and Stewart’s audit team in Wellington, beginning a career-long association with what has become PwC.
During the 1980s he started his active involvement in NZICA affairs and was in particular committed to communication and service to members and the community, to "put something back into the professional body which has given me a business career".
Tim chaired NZICA's Wellington branch committee and was elected to Council in 1990. He joined NZICA's Executive Board in 1994 and rose to President in 1998. At the time of his election he was working for Coopers & Lybrand.
"Tim was well known for very forthrightly standing up for what he believed was the right thing to do and always helping others before himself," said Peter Vial FCA, New Zealand Country Head for Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand.
"He will be greatly missed by not only family, friends and colleagues, but also by New Zealand's wider accounting community."
