CA ANZ and Tax Management NZ – IR Satisfaction Survey

The results of the Annual IR Satisfaction Survey of Members were released at the Tax Conference in October. Now in its eighth year, the results reflect the volume and pace of changes in NZ tax in 2018, with many members reporting that they are less satisfied with Inland Revenue’s services than in 2017 or earlier years. The survey covered a number of areas, including: contacting Inland Revenue, readiness for Business Transformation phase 3, AIM, and the impact of Inland Revenue directly contacting clients.

GST on low-value imported goods

The Minister of Revenue announced at the recent Tax Conference proposals to require overseas suppliers of low-value goods to register, collect and return GST from 1 October 2019. These proposals will apply to offshore suppliers supplying goods to New Zealand consumers valued at or below $1,000 when their total taxable supply exceeds $60,000 in a 12 month period. These proposals intend to make collecting GST on imported low value goods more practical.

These proposals will be included in a Tax Bill later this year.
