Stephen O'Connor FCA appointed to Financial Advice NZ Board

Stephen O'Connor FCA was appointed as a Practitioner Director to the board of Financial Advice New Zealand at the organisation's AGM in September 2018.

A financial adviser since 1987, Stephen is a Certified Financial Planner and an Authorised Financial Adviser, and is the principal of Invercargill-based Mitre Wealth Management. Stephen is actively involved in a number of community organisations in Southland./p>

Joe Hanita FCA recognised as Emerging Director with clear vision

Joe Hanita (Rangitane, Ngati Kuia) FCA has been announced as the Institute of Directors Taranaki Branch Emerging Director 2018.

Joe is the General Manager, Finance and Investments for Parininihi ki Waitotara Inc, a Māori land, farming, property, investment and seafood organisation that employs over 45 staff. His previous roles include Director of Finance at Te Wānanga o Aotearoa and associate director at KPMG.

Joe served for eight years on the executive committee of the National Māori Accountants Network, Ngā Kaitatau Māori o Aotearoa, and is currently a Director of the National Hauora Coalition Limited, which provides primary health and social services in Auckland, the Waikato and Whanganui.

CA big winner at MYOB's annual awards

A Botany-based accountant has received three top accolades at an industry awards event for business advisory and accounting leaders from around the country.

Kylie Liew CA from Giles & Liew Chartered Accountants took home an array of awards from MYOB's 2018 Partner Connect gala dinner held on Coronet Peak in Queenstown. Praised for her innovative approach to providing value to her clients, Kylie was named Accountant of the Year and Innovator of the Year while Giles & Liew received The Connected Practice Award. MYOB's annual awards celebrate the achievements of accountants and bookkeepers in areas such as service, innovation and results.

Victoria Toon CA appointed to Eden Park Trust Board

Victoria Toon CA has been selected as a Crown-appointed trustee to the Eden Park Trust Board. The Board is accountable for Eden Park’s financial and strategic management and the Crown appoints five of the nine trustees on three-year terms.

Victoria is a member of the Eden Park Residents Association and has been actively involved in the trust’s engagement with local residents.

Victoria also chairs CA ANZ's Auckland Public Practice Special Interest Group and is the owner and director of Auckland insolvency firm Corporate Restructuring Ltd, specialising in the restructuring of small to medium-sized enterprises.

Allan Wong Kam CA appointed CFO of Loyalty NZ

Allan Wong Kam CA will join Loyalty NZ's executive team as Chief Financial Officer from 10 December 2018.

Allan's new role follows his six years at Lumino The Dentists where he started as the CFO before becoming General Manager Commercial, Australia and New Zealand. Allan has also held senior commercial management roles for Restaurant Brands and Baxter Healthcare.

Bella Takiari-Brame CA appointed to Hamilton City Council committee

Bella Takiari-Brame (Ngāti Maniapoto) CA has been appointed to the Hamilton City Council Finance Committee. Holding the title of Māngai Māori or 'the Māori voice', Bella is one of five appointees to be appointed to the newly-established Māori seats on four Hamilton City Council committees.

Bella's most recent role was as General Manager Finance of the Hamilton-based network and energy company, WEL Networks, and she has been a trustee of the Maniopoto Māori Trust Board since 2015.

Dacey Balle CA joins Ballance Agi-Nutrient board

Dacey Balle CA has been chosen by Ballance Agri-Nutrients' shareholders to join the co-operative's board, representing the North Island.

Dacey is the Managing Director of the Balle Bros Group, which operates farms across the North Island and in Canterbury, and supplies retail and food service businesses across New Zealand and internationally, with fresh New Zealand produce. A director of Open Country Dairy, Onions NZ and Potatoes NZ, Dacey also assists in the management of a family dairy operation.

Sara Brownlie CA appointed to board of REANNZ

Sara Brownlie CA is one of three new directors appointed by the Minister of Research, Science and Innovation, Dr Megan Woods, to the board of the research and education network, REANNZ.

Sara is the Managing Director of Fargher Woods Ltd and an Independent Director for Catalyst.net Ltd. She has had extensive experience in senior financial management roles in the New Zealand public sector, and also sits on the Rongotai College Board of Trustees and volunteers for Victim Support.
