Bryce Barnett FCA receives Mayoral Award for Business Excellence

Bryce Barnett FCA, Executive Director at Augusta Capital Ltd, was presented with the Mayoral Award for Business Excellence at the Taranaki Chamber of Commerce Awards held on 27 October 2018. Bryce was made a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit in the 2018 New Year Honours for his services to governance and philanthropy, and in 2013 was named the Person of the Year by the Taranaki Daily News for his role in bringing the region's emergency helicopter service back from the edge of collapse.

Janine Becker CA new Waikato Regional Council Chief Financial Officer

Janine Becker CA will take up the role of Chief Financial Officer for the Waikato Regional Council on 14 January 2018. Her responsibilities will include corporate finance, property and facilities, corporate planning, procurement and public transport.

Throughout her 27 year career at the council, Janine has undertaken a number of finance and senior management roles and has actively contributed to the council's strong track record in financial management. Janine's appointment bolsters female representation on the seven-person executive team to four.

Marcus Croucher CA – World Financial Modelling finalist

Marcus Croucher CA is one of 16 finalists from around the world taking part in the ModelOff Finals being held in the UK next month. ModelOff is the world's largest community for students and professionals who have a passion for Financial Modeling and the finals will see the competitors test their skills against some of the best in the world.

Marcus is currently a management accountant for French-owned veterinary pharmaceutical business, Verbac and he has previously been a financial accountant and financial analyst for the Intueri Education Group and ACG Education respectively.

Janette Osborne CA appointed to board of Carrfields Primary Wool

Carrfields Primary Wool (CP Wool) announced the appointment of Janette Osborne CA to its board on 30 October 2018. Janette's 20 plus years' experience has seen her fulfil roles as a management accountant across a wide range of corporate and government positions in both Wellington and Christchurch.

She is currently a regional councillor on the Beef + Lamb Mid-Northern North Island Farmers Council, a director on the Primary Wool Co-Operative board, and has been a member of the Institute of Directors since 2008. Janette is actively involved in the family sheep and beef farm at Waitomo, and has established her own wool-related small business, Briar Patch.

David Searle CA new national Chair of Staples Rodway

David Searle CA was announced as the new National Chair of Staples Rodway, a New Zealand-wide network of accountancy and business advisory firms.

Currently Staples Rodway's Auckland Managing Director, David has worked in the firm's Auckland office since 1992. He has actively participated in the training and guidance of members of the accounting profession and has served as New Zealand Divisional President of CPA Australia and Chair of the Australasian CA Training Group.

Richard Simpson CA joins Research for Life board

Richard Simpson CA has joined the Research for Life board in a governance capacity and as a member of the board’s Finance and Investment sub-committee. Research for Life funds innovative quality research undertaken by researchers in the early stages of their careers.

Richard has served as a member of the Grant Thornton board for 12 years and has been a partner in their Financial Advisory Services Team since 1981. He will retire from this position at the end of the year. Richard has significant experience as chair and board member of several private companies and is a member of the Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand Disciplinary Tribunal.

CAs undertake management buy outs in Otago and Taranaki

Financial advisors Richard McKnight CA and Christine McNamara CA in Dunedin, and Grant McQuoid CA and Paul Petrowski CA in Taranaki, are undertaking a management buy out of the PwC financial advisory practice in their respective regions.

In Otago, Richard and Christine will practice under the legacy name of Barr Burgess & Stewart Limited, trading as BB&S. PwC will retain its Assurance practice in Otago and will share the current premises with BB&S.

In Taranaki, Grant and Paul will practice under the name of Velocite, and will focus on growing privately owned businesses in Taranaki. PwC will continue to service its Assurance clients in Taranaki from Wellington, Auckland and Hawke's Bay.

Ryman Healthcare wins Plain English award

Ryman Healthcare CFO David Bennett CA is part of the team responsible for the production of an award-winning 2018 annual report. The team from Ryman Healthcare who took out the WriteMark Best Plain English Annual Report award included accountant Rebecca Schumacher CA and Financial Controller Roger Nuttall (Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales).

The judges praised Ryman for its approach, noting the report’s success in taking complex information and sharing the details with clarity and with compelling storytelling.
