NZ movers and shakers – February 2020

In Movers and Shakers we mark the latest achievements of New Zealand members of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand.

In Brief

The first issue of Movers and Shakers this year is topped by two members receiving New Year's Honours.

Roy Cowley FCA and Laura Langman CA were appointed by the Queen to the New Zealand Order of Merit.

Roy Cowley of Wellington received a MNZM for services to charity governance and the arts. He has worked at the Cancer Society of New Zealand at a governance level for more than 20 years.

He has also supported the growth of the arts as a trustee of the New Zealand International Festival of the Arts from 1996 to 2010 and the New Zealand School of Dance from 1998 to 2004. Roy was also an independent advisor to the Little Company of Mary.

Laura Langman of Hamilton received an ONZM for services to netball. She captained the Silver Ferns to win the 2019 Netball World Cup, having played in the preceding 2007, 2011 and 2015 World Cups.

Laura became New Zealand's first netballer to surpass 150 Test Caps in 2019. She won Commonwealth Gold Medals with the Silver Ferns in 2006 and 2010 and Silver at the 2014 Games.

National farm body appoints Catherine McMillan FCA to board

Catherine McMillan FCA has been appointed as the new Independent Director of the Young Farmers Board.

Young Farmers said Catherine would bring a wide range of financial expertise and experience to the eight-person board. She has experience in the public sector, corporate business and education and has held a number of senior management and governance roles throughout her career.

She has also held a number of roles in the not-for-profit sector and membership organisations.

Bruce Roberston FCA appointed chair of Gisborne District Council committee

Bruce Roberston FCA has been appointed independent chair of Gisborne District Council's audit and risk committee.

Bruce works with the many local authorities including as independent member of Audit and Risk Committees for Auckland City Council, Bay of Plenty Regional Council, Environment Southland, Far North District Council, Southland District Council, Thames-Coromandel District Council and Waipa District Council.

Colin Foster CA Cannasouth’s new CFO

The Cannasouth Board has announced the appointment of Colin Foster CA as the company’s new Chief Financial Officer.

Mark Lucas, the CEO of the listed biopharmaceutical company says Colin had strong corporate and financial management skills gained over 33 years of senior financial leadership at Tatua Dairy Co-Operative and Anchor Products.

Geneva Finance appoints Malcolm Johnston CA to board

The Geneva Finance board has announced the appointment of Malcolm Johnston CA as a director.

Malcolm comes to the board with an extensive background in lending and financial services. He is currently the General Manager – Pacific Region for the Federal Pacific Group and has held senior executive roles in the commercial banking and Insurance industry.

Jeff McDowall CA joins Syft board

Syft Technologies has appointed Jeff McDowall CA as an independent director, effective 1 March 2020.

Jeff is the Chief Financial Officer at Air New Zealand where he was also Acting Chief Executive Officer between September 2019 to February 2020. Before joining Air New Zealand in 2000, he was a management consultant with PricewaterhouseCoopers in New Zealand, Singapore and the United States, and three years with Mobil Oil in New Zealand and the United Kingdom.
