NSW Regional Manager's report

NSW Regional Council’s final meeting for the year was on Monday 11 December and discussion included election of the 2018 Chair and Vice Chair, updates on the NSW Corporate Advisory Panel, and the 2018 World Congress of Accountants and review of member engagement activities for 2017. I would like to extend my sincere thanks to Kate Boorer for her leadership and very generous contribution as NSW Chair in 2017 and I look forward to working with Peter Wells as 2018 Chair.

In 2017 we also saw the implementation of dedicated support for our NSW Regional Country Groups, which includes development and coordination of regional events. This support has enhanced our engagement with members located in regional areas of NSW.

Events wrap up

During 2017 over 8300 participants attended various events in NSW. This included over 1940 guests who joined members at the presentation ceremonies. The NSW team coordinated a range of events including conferences, training updates, general updates to members from SMPs, mid-tier, Big 4 and corporate segments, as well as the presentation ceremonies.

I would like to also extend my thanks to the regional councillors and panel members who attend many of the events to engage with our members. Their support is invaluable, not only in acting as advocates for the organisation, but for our members to ensure we receive your feedback on issues affecting the membership.

I was very pleased to attend the recent anniversary event to meet many of our senior members. You represent and demonstrate the dedication of our members across extensive careers. I would like to make particular mention of 70 year member, Pamela Ploughman, who we understand is still doing some part time work!  We also acknowledge the many members who contribute to the wider community and utilise CA skills to benefit many not for profit organisations.

I am delighted to advise that this year’s Charity High Tea debate held in October raised over $22,000 for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

I would like to take this opportunity of wishing you all a happy and safe festive season for December and the New Year.

I also advise that the CA offices will be closed over the holiday period from 26 December to 5 January 2018.
