NSW regional news May 2019

In Brief

  • NSW Regional Council Member Engagement
  • Small Business Discussion Group invitation to new members
  • NSW Events coming up

NSW Regional Council Member Engagement

This year each NSW Regional Council member has taken a specific NSW member segment to approach with a view to strengthen and broaden member engagement. Council members will aim to attend member events and meetings and make contact with NSW members in the various segments to ensure we are representing the NSW membership. We look forward to meeting with members over the coming months and to your feedback.

Working with the NSW Regional Relationship Manager, Una Cullen, member groups across regional NSW help facilitate various events to engage with local members and help facilitate communication to and from CA ANZ. This year has included events in the Western, North West, Newcastle, Albury, Illawarra and Central Coast regions.

The most recent being a three day road show by the CA’s Australian Tax Leader, Michael Croker CA, covering Bathurst, Orange, Dubbo, Moree and Tamworth. I understand a very worthwhile trip, notwithstanding a near miss with a rabbit while driving between centres. I’d like to thank the many members who made the effort to participate in these events, some of whom had themselves travelled over an hour to attend. Thanks too to our member representatives in those centres.

Where possible one or two Regional Councillors will also try to attend some regional events this year, and have attended one in Armidale and one in Dubbo already, as well as various Sydney based events.

Fellowship Nominations 2019

Each year members have the opportunity to nominate colleagues for advancement to Fellowship. A member being nominated must have demonstrated excellence through outstanding achievement in, and contribution to, the profession, business and/or the community. NSW Regional Council is part of this nomination and review process and we envisage that members being nominated have contributed over and above their day to day role and exemplify the highest attributes of a CA.

It does always surprise us when reviewing nominations that some members are not already FCAs given their years of service and impressive contributions. I encourage you to think about your CA colleagues and what they’ve contributed. Successful nominees and their nominators will be invited to a special award presentation early in 2020.

Nominations are open now and the form and relevant Guidelines are available via the CA website.

Small Business Workshop No. 3 invitation to new members

The Small Business Workshop No. 3 is a Discussion Group of Members of Chartered Accountants Australia & New Zealand. The group has been meeting for over 30 years.

The Group meets on the 3rd Tuesday each month at the Sydney CA ANZ building at 6pm for approximately 2 hours. Each month, they organise a presenter to come along and present on a particular topic that is of general interest.

The group is looking to add 4-5 members to the group. Drinks and a light meal are provided on the night. If you are interested in joining the group please contact James Dolahenty on or 0412 242 071.
