Regional Manager update

As Regional Manager I have the pleasure of working with members of the NSW Regional Council, Young CAs Panel, and our Regional Country Chairs Group, as well as the Chartered Accountants Advisory Group (CAAG).  I am always impressed by the dedication and contribution of these members not only to their professional organisation but to their CA colleagues.  They assist us in identifying members’ needs and key professional issues, as well as relevant topics for member events; and in the case of CAAG act as a sounding board for members facing difficult professional situations.

In addition five of the Young CAs Panel recently participated in a joint staff and member charity fund raiser for CA ANZ charity partner, National Breast Cancer Foundation, undertaking the annual Bridge Climb and helping to raise over $10,000 for the NBCF.

Regional Council and YCA Panel representatives also provided an update to the June Board meeting outlining their key focus areas and relevant member issues.

We also welcomed this month ten interested young members to meet and network with the YCA Panel with a view to becoming involved and contributing to the Panel’s role.  It is encouraging to see the ongoing interest of our members in becoming involved with their professional body and contributing to the support we provide our members.

Mentor Exchange

Another way CA ANZ supports our younger members – and provides our more experienced members with an opportunity to give back- is through the annual Mentor Exchange program.  The Program matches experienced members with those who are starting out on their professional journey.

Mentees may be provided with opportunities to help build connections with leaders, benefit from their guidance and grow their professional network.

Feedback from previous mentees confirm the invaluable contribution this has made to them in their careers and many often stay in touch once their engagement in the initial Program has finished.

And it is not just the mentees who value the program. I have met with a number of the CA mentors, and their overwhelming response has been that they gain so much from the experience.

Further details on the Program are available via the CA ANZ website.

Fellowship Nominations 2019

Nominations for advancement to Fellowship close on 29 July 2019.  A member being nominated must have demonstrated excellence through outstanding achievement in, and contribution to, the profession, business and/or the community.

The NSW Regional Council is part of this nomination and review process and they are looking for evidence that the members being nominated have contributed over and above their day to day role and exemplify the highest attributes of a CA.

I encourage you to think about your CA colleagues and what they’ve contributed to the profession.  Successful nominees and their nominators will be advised in December and invited to a special award presentation early in 2020.

Upcoming events

Some of the upcoming NSW member events include regional NSW events:

Save the Date - 17 October: The NSW Annual Charity Event

(formerly known as the NSW High Tea) is a ‘must attend’ luncheon, with all fundraising proceeds donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.  Save the date and watch out for details and registration.

If you have any suggestions about events you’d like to see offered, please be in touch.
