NSW Fellows dinner and presentation ceremony

New South Wales Fellows Dinner and Presentation Ceremony recognises stellar contributions.

In Brief

  • Dennis Robertson FCA recognised with Life Membership
  • Ryan Hanson recognised as a shadow councillor for 2021 on the CA ANZ Council
  • Presentation dinner held in the Hilton Hotel

The New South Wales Fellows Dinner and Presentation Ceremony was held at the Hilton Hotel on the 26 May 2021 during what we now realise was a short window of time to hold COVID-safe face-to-face events.

Given the extension of lockdowns to greater Sydney until 28 August 2021, on reflection it was wonderful for members to attend an in-person ceremony that celebrated the accomplishments of new Fellows and to recognise the significant achievements of two members, Life Member recipient Dennis Robertson FCA and Ryan Hanson CA, the 2020 CA ANZ President’s Prize winner.

Life Membership is the highest honour conferred by the Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand Council, and is intended to recognise those distinguished members who have made outstanding achievements in and contributions to the profession and CA ANZ.

In attaining Life Membership, Dennis Robertson FCA joins the other current 23 Life Members, a cohort that is capped at 40 at any one time as per the by-laws.

Robertson has contributed to the profession over many years as a member of State Council, national Audit Advisory Committee, and the Disciplinary Tribunal, in addition to other advisory committees including Investigations, Appeals, Professional Standards, Education, PY Support and Quality Review.

He continues his support for other CAs as a member of the Chartered Accountants Advisory Group, which comprises a panel of senior members who provide peer-to-peer counselling and support for CAs facing ethical dilemmas or weighting a career decision.

Furthermore, Robertson has imparted his professional knowledge and service to entities such as the NSW Bar Association selection committee, the Accounting and Professional Ethical Standards Board, and as a member of the review panel into the HSU East Union.

Additionally, in the community sphere, he has contributed as director of CanAssist and currently Endometriosis Australia.

Ryan Hanson CA won the President’s Prize in 2020, an annual award in which the nominee is selected from the Young Regional Members chosen by each regional council in recognition of their contributions to the profession.

Hanson is currently a Senior Manager, Finance Business Partner at the Commonwealth Bank’s Chief Data Office and has been a member of the YCA Panel since January 2017, was Panel Chair in 2019 and continues to contribute to the Panel’s engagement strategy.

His focus has been on helping young members connect through organising popular networking, development, sporting and celebratory events. Additionally, Hanson has facilitated and hosted various events, liaised with panels in other regions, and has been a very engaging MC for the annual CA Charity event, and speaker at new member presentations.

Before joining the Panel, Hanson was one of our CA speakers, presenting to, and engaging with, university students and supporting our student careers engagement initiatives.

Further to his contribution to CA, Hanson imparts his professional knowledge acting as an external advisor to the Finance & Audit Subcommittee of the Western Sydney Migrant Resource Centre.

As part of the prize, Hanson was afforded the opportunity to be a shadow councillor for 2021 on our CA ANZ Council. The baton now passes from Hanson to newly announced 2021 President’s Prize award winner, Lisa Mead CA.

The evening was a great opportunity to celebrate and honour members and recognise individual members for their outstanding achievements and contributions.
