Update from Tasmanian Council Chair, Bo Xu CA

In brief

  • Welcoming new members into the CA ANZ family of difference makers
  • Continuing advocacy for women in our industry
  • Introducing a CA ANZ Tasmanian councillor, Natalia Svetlova CA
  • Young Professionals Network of Tasmania

Dear Tasmanian CAs

It has been a wonderful start to the year with two words coming to the forefront of my mind to sum the last month – collaboration and celebration.

It is an exciting time as Tasmanian CAs are leading the way with their ambition, courage, and determination to strive towards making a difference.

On the 15th and 16th of March in Hobart and Launceston, respectively, we held our Tasmanian Member Celebration Dinners. These were tremendously successful evenings from welcoming 25 new members into the family of Difference Makers at CA ANZ to recognising special achievements by Tasmanian Members of CA ANZ.

Following this, during International Women’s Day week, we were proudly represented on a panel by member Kirby Taylor CA at the Launceston Chamber of Commerce and Launceston Women in Business lunch. Natalia Svetlova CA, David Kewley CA, Phil Fulton FCA, and myself attended and left feeling inspired and encouraged to keep advocating for women in our industry.

Furthermore, it is my great pleasure to introduce to all of you the CA ANZ new High School presentation toolkit which is jam-packed with everything a teacher or leader may need, to talk to students about the profession, including a tailorable PowerPoint presentation, speaker guide and supporting presentation material.

We are excited to encourage students to look at accounting as an exciting pathway and break down any misconceptions.

In our next few updates, I would also like to further introduce and profile new CA ANZ Tasmanian councilor's in more detail and to start off with, in no particular order, I’d like to introduce you to Natalia Svetlova.

We are honoured to have Natalia as part of Council, representing CA members across Tasmania since her appointment in January this year. She is a graduate of commerce from Griffith University, Queensland, and completed her professional year / CA in February 2020.

She moved to Tasmania in 2018 and with a strong qualification has established a career in professional practice in business advisory over the past 8 years and is currently employed as a Relationship Executive with Commonwealth Bank supporting business growth in the Healthcare sector.

Natalia has always had an interest in supporting and serving members and was delighted to be invited to nominate for Regional Councillor. Her confidence and pride in representing the views of members and to keep improving CA ANZ is appreciated and she is always open to listen, so I encourage you to strike up a conversation next time you see her.

As always, the Tasmania Council is always keen to hear your feedback or matters of concern. If you would like to raise these and possibly attend a Tasmanian Council meeting to share your comments, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Regional Manager – Tasmania and Victoria, Andrew Quinlan in the CA ANZ Melbourne office  [email protected].
