Sixteen globetrotting Chartered Accountants in overseas jurisdictions have been recognised with prestigious Fellowships from Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ).

Fellowships recognise Chartered Accountants who have achieved excellence in their career and contribution to the profession, business and their communities. Of the sixteen Fellows: three are from Hong Kong, two from Malaysia, five from Singapore, five from the United Kingdom and one from Fiji.

Martin Aitchison FCA, Partner at Stepping Stone, is one of the newest Fellows from Singapore, who said Fellowships were about development, and that service to the community was key.

"I think you have to embrace continuing personal development through continued learning. Be prepared to share your experience and knowledge gained over the years with up-and-coming members," he said.

"Be prepared to give back to the community through numerous channels such as mentoring, sitting on school boards or your local Chamber of Commerce."

"I joined the profession to travel, I have lived in five countries and worked in over 20 countries, the accountancy profession is one of the truly global professions."

"I feel very humble that I have been recognised by my peers."

Alywin Teh, Partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers Singapore also advanced to Fellow.

"I already felt very privileged to be nominated by my peers and recognised by my colleagues and clients for the professional work that I have been doing over the years," he said.

"In reflection, I felt that my advancement to Fellow would not have been possible without the opportunities given to me by the senior partners of my firm, as well as the encouragement I received from my colleagues to challenge myself to perform better at each stage of my professional development."

Susan Hickey FCA, Chief Financial Officer at Peabody in the United Kingdom also shared being named a CA ANZ Fellow was an honour.

"I am honoured and very proud to have been awarded a CA ANZ Fellowship," she said.

"CA ANZ Fellows have a strong set of personal values and high professional standards but also a practical understanding of civic responsibility. For me that includes an ability to bring strong principles to life, to deliver practical value."

Barbara Yu, Director at Prudential Corporations Asia, is one of just three new Fellows from Hong Kong.

"It's a recognition of the relentless contributions I have made to CA ANZ for the past 15 plus years and I am very honoured," she said.

"Being a CA ANZ Fellow is a recognition of the career achievements and contributions you have made to the profession."

"Whether you decide to continue your career in a big four or venture out to the commercial world, you could continue your services to the accounting professions by participating in accounting forums or joining the working committees to organise events for the members."

President of CA ANZ, Stephen Walker FCA congratulated all of CA ANZ's newest Fellows.

"I want to congratulate all of our newest Fellows for their outstanding career achievements and contributions to the accounting profession," Walker said.

"From one Fellow to another, I warmly welcome you all and congratulate you again on this significant career milestone."

Mr Walker encouraged all Chartered Accountants to nominate deserving colleagues for a Fellowship in 2019.

"Nominations must be made by two Chartered Accountant peers, so if you know a CA who has been outstanding in their career or in their contribution to accountancy, consider putting them forward for a Fellowship this year."

Nominations for 2019 Fellowships open in April and close in July. Fellows will be announced at the end of the year.
