The series supports the launch of the “Future of Trust” research paper published by Chartered Accountants in February 2019 and discusses the evolving role of Chartered Accountants as trusted advisors.

5 March Capital CFO SIG Event: The 2019 Tax Working Group Report – what's in, what's out, how will Government respond?

On 8 March the region hosted two International Women's Day events.  In the Manawatu the local Women Accountants Group delivered a half day event. In Wellington the Women Accountants Group livestreamed the Breakfast held at Parliament.

On 13 March the Wellington Young Accountants Group (YAG) delivered an event hosted by Beyond Recruitment titled "Pathways to Success"

On Tuesday 19 March the Wellington Financial Services SIG delivered Hamish McDonald from NZX with Market Structure.

What the regional CA ANZ staff are doing.

On Friday 22 February a Wellington CA ANZ team participated in the PwC Charity Relay.  The event is an, invitation only, 100km charity fund-raising relay supporting Ronald McDonald House, Wellington Free Ambulance and the Life Flight Trust.  Our first runner was our President Stephen Walker FCA who was one of the quickest runners of the day. 

The Wellington CA ANZ team had been active fundraising with office events a Givealittle Page and a corporate sponsor (Simplicity).  Many of our members commented on the day that it was great to see the professional body out there supporting the run.  We also donated over $5,000 to the charity.

Future Prospects on Charity Law, Accounting and Regulation in New Zealand Conference

Building on the success of 2018, this multi-disciplinary conference covers legal, accounting and related practical issues associated with the charitable sector, and aims to:

  • Inform and educate on important topics for charities
  • Strengthen links, contacts and collaboration within the sector community
  • Share lessons learnt and best practice that have worked for others, within New Zealand and beyond
  • Stimulate discussion and input into the review of the Charities Act 2005.

The hosts are bringing together a wide range of voices and perspectives to consider the issues before us all. This conference will provide opportunities for rich conversation on the review of the Charities Act and what the framework of charity law should look like in the future.

Among the speakers are leading figures from New Zealand and overseas, including: the Minister for the Community and Voluntary Sector Hon Peeni HenareProfessor Matthew Harding from the University of Melbourne and chair of the Charity Law Association of Australia and New Zealand, Dr Oonagh Breen, Professor of Law, University College Dublin, Donna Flavell, CEO Waikato Tainui, Justice Joe Williams, speakers from Charities Services, and leading academics and practitioners from New Zealand and overseas.

CA ANZ is presenting the 2018 Charity Reporting Awards to the winners and runners-up from the four tiers at the evening dinner.

The Minister of Revenue Stuart Nash, Tax Working Group member Robin Oliver and tax experts Elly Ward from PwC and Allan Scott from BDO have confirmed their participation to the "Future of Tax" event happening on 1 May at CAANZ.

What does a Capital Gains tax mean for your business and your clients? This event aims to serve as a platform to share and discuss the Government's plan to enable an efficient, fair and simple tax system in New Zealand.

Important Vote

There was a Regional Council by-election in March for the RONI Area. 

Voting commenced on 4 March and concluded at 3.00pm on 22 March 2019. This was conducted by internet and postal voting. 

The 3 nominations were Kevin Barnes CA – Hamilton, Cameron Town CA – Whanganui and Jessie Watling CA – Ohakune

The successful and new Regional Councillor will be announced in due course.
