News from last month

We are taking a few weeks early in July to complete a lot of our internal staff development activities.  We know that some members like to take a break after the end of June so we have deliberately minimised our event and professional development offerings for a short period. 

In the meantime, we can reflect on a busy June.

Governance Vote

All members were invited to participate in the Governance Vote in May.  The Member Engagement Team in the Lower North Island is actively engaged with the Local Committees (this is what the Local Leadership Teams will be re-named to) to shape the appointment process for 2020.  There are some changes around the appointment process and the tenure of appointment that are slightly different for the future. 

News from Wellington

The Future of Trust Series wound up on the 12th of June with the last session of the series.  Dr. Lisa Mariott, Professor of Taxation and Associate Dean (Research), Victoria University and author of the Future of Trust research paper that inspired this series hosted a fireside chat with Rob Everett, CEO, Financial Markets Authority.

News from Wairarapa

Save the date – Wairarapa Half Day Conference

You should have received in your inbox an invitation to the Wairarapa Half Day Conference on Friday 18 October 2019 in the Wairarapa.  The Wairarapa LLT hosted a 1-day conference in September 2018 titled 'Take the Opportunities'.  It was such a great local success that they have decided to build on it with a half-day conference this year. 

Take the Opportunities: Grow the Business is going to be on Friday 18 October 2019 and already has a great line-up of speakers covering such diverse areas such as crowd funding and R&D grants. Confirmed speakers so far include Graeme Jensen, Area Manager, ASB and Matt Kenny, CFO, Callaghan Innovation.

News from Manawatu

Leadership Series – Manawatu Women Accountants Group

The Manawatu Women Accountants Group has developed a three-parts leadership series running from August to October covering:

  • Essential Leadership Skills – 22 August
  • Work-life balance, adaptability, staying up to date and relevant – 26 September
  • Creating your Best Financial Future – 24 October

Events of note last month were

We hosted a New Members Ceremony on Wednesday 5 June and awarded 55 members who celebrated with friends, family and colleagues.  A fantastic evening of celebrations introduced by CAANZ Vice President Nives Botica Redmayne. The event included an inspirational address from our Councillor Sarah Wood who discussed the crucial role of mentors for young CAs.

More than 50 members attended the Integrated Reporting Seminar on 26 of June which included case studies from The Warehouse Group, Zelandia, Kiwirail and XRB. 

Finally, Peter Crawford, Economic Advisor at Palmerston North City Council and Grant Verhoeven CEO at Sparked Careers presented at the Manawatu Corporate SIG Half Day Conference on Thursday 27 June.
