- Committed to supporting the use of te reo Māori across the organisation
- Providing te reo Māori learning opportunities to staff and members
- Normalising the use of te reo Māori
We are committed to normalising the use of te reo Māori and supporting our staff and members to use Māori language both at home and the workplace. This year we launched several exciting initiatives designed to help our staff and members learn, practice and use te reo Māori.
Organisation-wide te reo Māori learning
Following the success of the first te reo Māori classes led by expert kaiako Anaha Hiini of Kōtihi Reo Consultants earlier in the year for NZ-based staff, we launched an organisation-wide beginners' class accessible by all staff. The program runs for 6 weeks has been well attended with over 70 staff dialing every Friday to practice their pronunciation, learn their pepeha and build their understanding of the Māori world.
What will you do to promote, encourage and embrace te reo Māori in your organisation or business?
Member events with a focus on tikanga and cultural leadership
Although kanohi ki te kanohi (face to face) is the best way for Māori hui, we've adapted to the current environment by developing an online workshop series for members and their colleagues as an alternative to the successful Tikanga Workshops on marae. During these workshops, participants are introduced to concepts including using Māori greetings, importance of pronunciation, karakia and waiata. Māori values such as manaakitanga, whanaungatanga and kaitiakitanga are explored to provide understanding on how these values can be implemented in the workplace.
