Communities across the world are facing an unprecedented situation and along with many organisations, we have been closely monitoring COVID-19 developments and advice from government to ensure the safety, health and wellbeing of our people, members and candidates.
A hallmark of our designation is that our members not only support their clients and each other to uphold high standards of duty, ethics and service, but also the communities in which we live and work.
Doing our part to contain the spread
First and foremost, my thoughts are with those who have been impacted by the virus, whether directly or indirectly. We are rising to the task of protecting the more vulnerable members of our community and doing our part to contain the spread of COVID-19.
To maintain social distancing, we are either postponing, cancelling or shifting our face-to-face member events, where we can, to online or virtual support and learning offerings.
We are also exploring how we can run our CA Program workshops and classes online and will update members and candidates in the coming weeks as we work through the options and logistics.
As we reimagine our new normal, please be assured your professional body will balance the community need for social distancing with the designation’s imperative to learn, connect, be informed and work with governments and regulators to help navigate this event.
With many members now working from home, there are a range of ways you can keep up your connections with your fellow CAs and your professional development.
The Chartered Accountants Advisory Group, which is made up of experienced, senior CAs, provide free, confidential support and guidance on professional and ethical matters.

It is during times like these we often draw on the strength of our community and peers.
Many of you may remember that upon becoming a CA, members take the Membership Charge and make a public commitment to “uphold the profession’s rich traditions of contributing to deserving community services, without thought of fee or reward and, as a recipient of the best from the past, to give your best in aiding and sharing the profession of tomorrow.”
As a CA, I have spent years helping and investing my heart and soul into the communities and businesses around me and I’m confident that while the next few months and even the years ahead will be a challenge, if we keep contributing and giving our best, it is a challenge we can face head on together.
