Global accounting heavyweights convene for first time in 4 years

Global accounting leaders are among the more than 4000 delegates attending the World Congress of Accountants in Sydney.

In brief

  • The World Congress of Accountants (WCOA) will be held in Sydney from 5-8 November at the International Convention Centre.
  • Global accounting bodies will be represented at the conference and many will take the opportunity to hold council and board meetings.
  • Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand is co-hosting both WCOA and the Global Executive Roundtable, bringing it out of New York for the first time.

Accounting professionals from all over the globe will convene at the 20th World Congress of Accountants (WCOA) in Sydney next week. The four-day international event will feature 152 speakers, 95 individual events including interactive sessions and professional workshops and an exhibition floor the size of two football fields.

More than ten global accounting bodies will be represented at the conference and many will take the opportunity to hold their council and board meetings in Sydney.

Held every four years, the World Congress of Accountants is being hosted by Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand and CPA Australia this year.

Chief Executive Officer at Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ), Rick Ellis said the World Congress was the only event that gathered accounting professionals to this scale.

"We are tremendously excited to be involved in bringing the World Congress of Accountants to Sydney which will welcome more than 4,000 delegates from 130 countries and ten accounting membership bodies," Mr Ellis said.

It is a rare opportunity to have so many world experts gathered in one place to talk about the future of the accounting profession and sharing their expertise and know-how with each other.

"It will be the first time in four years that global accounting bodies including the International Federation of Accountants, the ASEAN Federation of Accountants and Chartered Accountants Worldwide will convene together."

"It is exciting that many of these bodies will be taking the opportunity to hold their board and council meetings with the backdrop of WCOA here in Sydney which will give them a chance to have discussions about innovation and prepare for changes affecting the accounting profession."

CA ANZ will also partner with the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) to host the annual Global Executive Roundtable in Sydney immediately before WCOA. The event will be the first Global Executive Roundtable for C-Suite executives held outside of New York.

The annual Global Executive Roundtable is an invite-only event bringing together the best and brightest in the accounting software industry to discuss the challenges facing the profession.

"We are pleased to be part of the Global Executive Roundtable and help widen the global frontier of these productive conversations by bringing it to Australia," Mr Ellis said.

The World Congress of Accountants will be held at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Darling Harbour from 5-8 November.
