Former Society of Accountants President made Life Member

Christchurch Gill Cox FCA has been made a Life Member of Chartered Accountants ANZ

Gill Cox ONZM FCA, who as President of the then New Zealand Society of Accountants (NZSA) was instrumental in the establishment of the three-college structure, and protecting legislation for the profession in the 1990s, has been made a Life Member of Chartered Accountants ANZ.

Gill has made a significant contribution to our organisation (throughout its many guises as New Zealand Society of Accountants, Institute of Chartered Accountants of New Zealand, New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants and Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand) over more than three decades, including involvement on many technical and professional committees. He was elected National President of NZSA in 1992.

In 1996 he established Advanced Business Education Limited, an independent subsidiary of the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants (NZICA) which administered the post-graduate admission programmes for the CA, ACA and AT Colleges.

He is currently Chartered Accountants ANZ’s New Zealand representative at the Confederation of Asian and Pacific Accountants (CAPA).

He was a Partner at Deloitte & Touche LLT from 1971 to 1996 and Chairman of National Board of Partners, 1993 – 1996.

He received his Fellowship in 1989. His Life Membership was conferred by the CA ANZ Council on 29 November 2017.

Gill has an extensive involvement with the wider Canterbury business community. In particular, he has taken an active role in the post-earthquake recovery in Christchurch. He has played a significant leadership role as a member of the former Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority (CERA) Community Advisory Board and the CERA Transition Advisory board.

Gill currently holds a number of directorships, including Ngai Tahu Farming Ltd ( Chair), Transwaste Canterbury Ltd( Chair), Elastomer Products Ltd ( Chair), Independent Fisheries Ltd, Talbot Technologies Ltd, Anderson Lloyd, MOTUS Health Ltd and Barlow Bros NZ Ltd. Until earlier this year Gill served on the boards of both MainPower NZ Ltd and the NZ Transport Agency.

Gill, as a passionate Cantabrian, has also been instrumental in establishing the Committee for Canterbury, of which he is currently Chair.

As well as setting up Advanced Business Education Limited, Gill has also had a high level of involvement in tertiary education with a particular focus on accounting and management education. He was Pro-Chancellor at Lincoln University between 1995 and 2001 and was a part-time lecturer in Auditing University of Canterbury 1971-1986.

In 2010, Gill was awarded Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit (ONZM).
