Former Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ) President, Cassandra Crowley FCA, has been recognised for her exceptional skill and experience at the Women in Governance Awards Gala Dinner held in Auckland earlier this month.

The Inspirational Excellence Award is considered the supreme award of the night, and is awarded to women who have inspired others with their excellence in governance.

On presenting Cassandra with the award, the judges commented that: “There are clear examples of the direct impact the nominee has made in each of her roles, with testimonials to reinforce these examples. The depth and skill that this woman brings to the board table can only be described as exceptional.”

Cassandra’s time as President of CA ANZ in 2017 was marked by her commitment to help the organisation evolve and stay relevant in today’s rapidly changing digital age, and by her encouragement of younger practitioners to join the professional body.

Her achievements as kaitumuaki (Chief Executive) of Te Korowai o Ngāruahine is just one example of the many high-profile leadership positions for which she was recognised. Before leaving this role in 2017 to pursue other opportunities, Cassandra managed settlement money received by Taranaki’s Ngāruahine iwi (tribe) for historical breaches of the Treaty of Waitangi, New Zealand’s founding document between Māori and the British Crown.

The fact a pakeha (non-Māori) person was appointed to this role is testament to the esteem in which Cassandra is held.

As well as winning the Inspirational Excellence Award, Cassandra was a finalist in the Emerging Leader category.

The Women in Governance Awards are an initiative of Women on Boards New Zealand, which is a unit of Governance New Zealand. The Awards recognises and celebrates innovation, excellence, creativity and commitment to diversity by both organisations and individuals.
