Chartered Accountants and CA firms featured strongly in the 2019 Xero Awards which recognise excellence among the business and accounting software company's accounting, bookkeeping and ecosystem partners.
The awards' night, held in Wellington on 22 August, featured awards from eight categories including a new one – NZ People's Choice Award where all the nominations came from small businesses.
Nathan Maisey CA, the owner of the winner of this category, Hamilton-based Maisey Harris & Co said "Winning was awesome."
"For us it cements our vision that 'accounting' is not actually about tax and numbers for small businesses anymore. It's about relationships; it's about having conversations and it's about helping people to position their businesses to get the life they truly want."
"There were many wonderful entries – the winners really were the best of the best."
The National Partner of the Year award was won by BDO NZ.
Adam Davy FCA, BDO's Head of Advisory and Director of Innovation said this award is "really significant as BDO and Xero share the same dream: to help New Zealand businesses thrive."
"Our partnership with Xero has helped to realise that dream for so many of our clients and the fact that we are the largest user of Xero worldwide is testament to the enduring strength of this partnership."
Another CA firm to pick up an award was Southland's Malloch McClean which won the Large Accounting Partner of the Year award.
Wellington’s Convex Accounting won the Advisory Partner of the Year award.
The Business Transformation Award went to Oxygen Advisors whose Founding Director is Matt Dold CA.
Peter Vial, New Zealand Country Head for Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, and one of the awards' judges, said he was impressed with the calibre of the entries.
"It was a privilege to be a judge and to see clear evidence of the strength and vibrancy of the New Zealand accounting world."
"There were many wonderful entries – the winners really were the best of the best. The experience confirmed my confidence in the future of the accounting profession."
David Bell, Director Business Growth, at Xero in New Zealand also believes the awards highlighted the strength and talent within the industry. "Like the judges I think it's clear that there these winners love what they do and are genuinely committed to helping small businesses thrive."
