In brief

  • They have been acknowledged and celebrated for making a difference to the communities in which they live and work, and Chartered Accountants ANZ congratulates them on being recognised this Australia Day
  • These chosen CAs help define, encourage and reinforce national aspirations, ideals and standards within our CA community

Chartered Accountants were again among those recognised in the Australia Day Honours this year.

Australia’s honours system began in 1975 with the creation of the Order of Australia to recognise service to the nation or humanity. Today there are 57 awards in the Australian honours system, administered by various organisations.

Honours help define, encourage and reinforce national aspirations, ideals and standards by identifying role models.

Honours are given to recognise, celebrate and say thank you to those who make a difference, those who achieve their best and those who serve others.

Those honoured include Rachel Grimes FCA AM who was awarded Member of the Order of Australia for significant service to business in the field of accountancy, and to professional associations. Rachel was elected the 2011 President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia laying the foundations for the formation of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, ahead of the successful amalgamation between the Australian and New Zealand member bodies, after aligning their education and technology platforms.
Fellow Chartered Accountant Jennifer Morison FCA AM was also honoured as a Member of the Order of Australia for significant service to business in the field of accountancy, and to professional associations. Ms Morrison FCA AM is a former CA ANZ national board member (2003 to 2008) and former CA ANZ ACT Chair.

Also honoured is Kevin O’Rourke OAM who was awarded Medal of the Order of Australia for his service to the Law. He is the current Chair of the CA ANZ Indirect Tax Committee.
