Submission - Remote area tax concessions

A submission to the Productivity Commission for its study into the zone tax offset and the related remote area tax concessions and payments.

Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ) lodged a submission on 3 May 2019 to the Productivity Commission for its study into the zone tax offset and the related remote area tax concessions and payments.

Our submission focused on how the operation of the remote area tax concessions can be improved to ensure that its objective has a better chance of being achieved.  Our regional members in Queensland have a strong interest in this topic and contributed several ideas to improve the operation of these provisions:

  • Zone boundaries
  • Increasing and indexing the zone tax offset
  • Graduating the amount of the zone tax offset to reflect the degree of residency within a zone.
