1. Review requirements
You need at least two years of practical risk management experience within the last five years, where at least 20% of employment is related to risk and an additional 20% is related to the risk management field of work.
You also need to have completed mandatory subjects at University of NSW (UNSW) within the previous five years. See step 3 for details.

2. Enrol in the appropriate courses at UNSW
Get started on your Risk specialisation now
At UNSW, you must successfully complete two mandatory subjects as part of the Graduate Certificate of Management:
- MBAX9135 Business Analytics
- MBAX9130 Enterprise Risk Management

These subjects must have been completed within the 5 years prior to applying for CA Risk Specialist recognition.
3. Apply for recognition
Complete and return the Risk Specialisation Application for Recognition form, attaching the required references and education documents.
You'll need to provide two professional references from individuals who can positively attest to your skills and knowledge in risk with your application.
Consider the following when choosing your referees:
a. One referee must be a Chartered Accountants with at least three years' membership who has known you for 12 months or more.
b. The two referees should not be from the same organisation.
c. The referees must not be related to you.
Finalise your application by attaching the following: a certified copy of your qualification and an academic transcript related to the qualification which details the subjects which you undertook and their successful completion. These subjects must include the mandatory subjects listed in step 3 for your chosen course with UNSW.
4. Application review
Following a review of your application you will be informed by letter if you have been approved or declined. If approved, you will receive a confirmation email, risk specialisation signature banner for your use and inclusion on CA ANZ's Find a CA website. You will then receive a welcome pack containing your approval letter and your certificate. You will be emailed a tax invoice which includes the application fee and the pro-rated subscription fee.
If you are declined because based on your application you do not satisfy the identified criteria, you will not be charged any fees.
