Indigenous Accountants Australia

We seek to strengthen our commitment to supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people through the Indigenous Accountants Australia (IAA) initiative and our Indigenous Work Group to highlight the value and benefits that a career in accounting can bring.

CA ANZ acknowledges this land throughout Australia as the traditional lands of the Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander People and that we respect their spiritual relationship with their country and to their Elders past, present and future. We also acknowledge them as the custodians of the land and that their cultural and heritage beliefs are important to the living Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people today.

Committed to supporting Indigenous accounting in Australia

Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ) understands the value that a career in accounting can bring to Indigenous communities in Australia. CA ANZ is committed to supporting Indigenous Australians throughout their journey to becoming a Chartered Accountant.

In 2012 CA ANZ, in partnership with CPA Australia formed Indigenous Accountants Australia (IAA), a joint initiative aimed at raising awareness and promoting the benefits of accounting as a profession within Indigenous communities. The ultimate vision for the initiative is to increase the representation of Indigenous Australians in all areas of the accounting profession.

Since IAA’s inception in 2012 there are currently over 50 professionally qualified accountants who identify as Indigenous Australian’s and we are proud to know that this number is continuing to grow.

Through CA ANZ’s Indigenous Work Group, we celebrate and acknowledge the identity of Australia and New Zealand, our unique Indigenous people and their rich heritage.

Indigenous Accountants Australia (IAA)

With Indigenous-owned businesses in Australia generating more than $1 billion each year, there is a clear opportunity to grow the representation of Indigenous accountants across Australia.

The IAA aims to help overcome cultural and geographic barriers to give Indigenous communities a holistic picture of the accounting profession.

They do this through collaboration and engagement with universities, students, employers, and other networks by:

  • Facilitating mentoring opportunities
  • Partnering with organisations to engage with high school and TAFE pathways
  • Hosting student-employer networking and careers events
  • Providing opportunities to become involved in CA ANZ and CPA Australia events.

IAA Relationship Manager, Matt Lancaster is committed to promoting the accounting profession within indigenous communities and building brighter futures for indigenous accountants.
